PROGRAM DETAILS

An assessment will determine if the Davis program is a suitable solution.

The first step is an Assessment

The assessment will determine if the Davis® Program is a suitable solution for the client's learning difficulties and goals. Call 503-957-2998 or email melissa@dyslexiaoregon.com to set up an initial consultation.

The Program

The Davis program is a 30-hour one-week program which is facilitated one-on-one. Each program is customized to address the client's specific goals and areas for improvement. Because it is a creative program and is designed for the learning style of the visual-spatial person, clients work with their natural strengths and talents to overcome their learning obstacles. While many other programs address only the symptoms of the learning disability, the Davis methods get to the root cause of the learning difficulty. Clients will leave with the ability to implement the knowledge obtained during the program into daily life. Support Training is provided on the last day for family members, tutor(s) and/or teacher(s) who will support the client in the program follow-up.

Support Training

Anyone that will assist the client meet his/her post-program goals should attend Support Training. Support training is usually held on the afternoon of the last program day.

Covered during this:

  • Koosh® Ball Exercises
  • Davis Reading Exercises
  • Davis Symbol Mastery®
  • Follow-up schedule
  • Post-program recommendations

After the Program

The program provides the client with all of the tools, understanding, and materials necessary to implement the strategies into their everyday lives and achieve positive results. Continued use of the Davis tools and Davis Symbol Mastery® of 219 “trigger words” (those words that do not have a visual image) is an essential part of the correction of Dyslexia.

Overview of the Davis Programs

Davis Orientation Counseling®, as outlined in The Gift of Dyslexia by Ronald D. Davis, provides clients with the ability to detect and self-correct distorted perception caused by confusion with letters, words, numerals, and other symbols.

Working with clay allows for confusion to be realized and resolved - in a multi-dimensional, creative way that fits the dyslexic thinking and learning style.

Clients start by resolving confusion with the basic literacy symbols, including letters (above) and punctuation marks.

Clients then work with clay to master words that do not give them a picture. We call these "trigger words" and there are 219 words identified by Davis that need to be mastered. Most of these words will be done at home, after the one-week program.

Clients leave with a kit that includes all necessary supplies to complete the follow-up work at home.
